  My first time seeing Delicate Arch in person was unforgettable. Ever since that day, I’ve dreamed of returning to capture its beauty at sunrise, sunset, or even under the stars. During that first visit, as I explored the area and found myself standing below the arch, looking up in awe, I discovered this lower vantage point. I promised myself I’d come back one day to photograph a sunrise from that very spot.

  
  

  Fast forward a couple of years—my good friend and I planned a photography trip through Canyonlands, Dead Horse Point, and the breathtaking red rock landscapes that surround Moab, Utah. We started at the south entrance of Canyonlands National Park and captured some incredible scenes, but my ultimate goal was still Delicate Arch.

  As we drove north toward Moab, I realized we had miscalculated our timing. The sun was setting fast, and there was no way we’d make it to Delicate Arch in time. Of course, as luck would have it, the sunset turned out to be absolutely phenomenal. Watching the sky explode with color while still on the road was both beautiful and frustrating. I couldn’t help but feel a little defeated, knowing we’d missed the opportunity to witness that light at the arch.

  
  

  We rolled into town, grabbed dinner, and made a plan—wake up early and hike up for sunrise. At 4 a.m., we set out in the dark, headlamps lighting our path as we began the mile-long climb. The silence was eerie but peaceful. Reaching the lower bowl, we set up our tripods and waited.

  As blue hour approached, we sat in anticipation, hoping for good light and a colorful sunrise. For a while, it seemed like the sky would stay dull and gray. But just as our hopes began to fade, the clouds caught the first light of day—soft pink hues spreading across the sky. In that moment, the world felt still, and the view before us was everything I had imagined. It was the perfect reward for the early wake-up and years of anticipation.
